Seasonal Types of Blinds in Australia

Australia has four seasons, with the tropical north having wet and dry seasons. Homes in Australia are exposed to extreme temperatures, whether it is in the middle of winter or the long hot days of summer. That is why quality window blinds are a must for every home. Aside from giving you privacy and additional decoration, window blinds are very useful in moderating the temperature of a home. You can count on window blinds to keep the heat or the cold at tolerable levels and also lower your electric bills.

During summers in Australia, the sunlight coming in through your windows heats up your house, causing your air conditioners to work harder and your electric bill to spike up. Cooling your home during the summer takes a lot of energy. Instead of buying more fans or air conditioning unit, save money by ordering quality blinds online. You can keep your home cool by limiting the amount of sunlight that enters if you shut your blinds during the day. You should consider shutting your south and west facing windows because they get the most direct sunlight. Close your blinds when the sun is up to prevent heat from coming in. Open them only again when the sun goes down to help any extra heat escape. Use light-coloured shades to reflect the sunlight back outside to keep your house cool.

For venetian blinds, just tilt the slats upward to let air pass through. For roller blinds, the air can pass through the light sheer material, but the heat cannot and it can effectively cool down the room. Window blinds with UV coating can further help you keep the heat out.

Warming up your home during winter is more affordable with window blinds as well. Tilting blinds downward will let sunlight and heat come into your room. Keep the blinds open during the day, then completely close it at night to trap the heat in and keep your home warm. Wooden venetian blinds are great insulators of heat for winter. Roller blinds made of thick material are also great window shades for this season. The colour of the blinds can also contribute to your room temperature. Use dark and warmer colours for winter.

When seasons change and the weather is caught between cold and warmth, you can easily adjust your blinds accordingly. Use dual-roller blinds so you can have two independently working blinds in one and you can use it for every season in Australia.

  4. In Australia, there are four types of blinds that are commonly used in homes and businesses: Venetian Blinds, Roller Blinds, Vertical Blinds, and Roman Blinds.

Venetian and Roller Blinds can be used for both residential and commercial properties. A Venetian blind is a type of shade made up of an upper panel and a lower panel, both of which usually tilts inwards at the bottom. The top tilts outwards at the top to grant privacy or block sunlight. The top tilts inwards at the bottom to grant privacy from outside viewing for that inside. A Roller Blind does not tilt either way and instead rolls up when not in use.

Vertical blinds are perfect for sliding glass doors and windows. This blind is also called the Venetian blind because it has a vertical orientation, much like its namesake.

The Roman Blind can be made of wood or cloth and is operated by a string pull system at the back. It usually features pleats and it can be opened manually or by turning a crank handle attached to the blind which is very similar to the one described above. However, it's made up of multiple parts for sliding doors and windows, tilts inwards instead of tilts outwards like the other types, and does not roll up at the top or bottom.
